Yearbook Design / Desktop Publishing
Full year - 1 credit
This course is designed to introduce the student to visual and graphic design tools used in photography, publishing, marketing, and advertising. Students will learn various aspects of graphic design and communication such as layout, cover design, typography, and general techniques that are used in producing the Andrews Osborne Academy yearbook, The Andrean. The student will use various software products such as Microsoft PictureIt!, Adobe PhotoShop, Adobe PageMaker, and other specialized software to produce their project pages. Since the final product from this course is the AOA yearbook, the student will also learn production planning and project timing techniques to ensure that the yearbook is completed on or before the publisher’s target deadlines. Individual time management, task completion, organization, and project teamwork are skills that are required and highly encouraged in this class. No previous design experience is required.
Art and Technology
1 semester- 1/2 credit
Creating digital art on paper is the focus of this course. This is an introduction to the studio techniques used in creating computer art. Instruction covers creative thinking techniques, design concepts, aesthetics, and professional practices. We start with the basic concepts of creating and manipulating images using Adobe PhotoShop. Students also learn how to use the digital camera to produce images.
